Audience Feedback

Create your free online surveys with SurveyMonkey , the world's leading questionnaire tool.

Above is the survey which I have sent out around college to get my target audience's opinion on my magazine advertisement. By getting responses off the age group that I have aimed my products at will give me an honest idea on what is good and what is bad about my product. It will also give me a general idea on how the product would sell if released to the general public. If a product isn't liked by the target audience I have aimed my product at, it will mean that my artist wont be come as successful or well know. The pop genre very much focuses on the popularity of the songs and what is in the charts at the moment, as the genre is constantly changing. Therefore, my product needs to stand out and appeal to those who consume the product the most and dominate the music industry. From the results of this survey will predict how my product would react to the pop genre market. Also from the results of the survey I will be able to make changes on my products so that it is exactly how people want to consume this product. Below are the responses to my questionnaire.

With all this feedback on my magazine product survey I will construct a new version of my magazine poster advertisement to meet the new requirements that have been highlighted. By doing this it means that my product will be more successful as there will be less things negatively said about my product. Looking back at the results nothing major has come up and I understand that my product can't please everybody. As everybody has required taste and some of those who took my survey don't necessarily like the pop genre. However, I will fix the little things wrong with my product so that it will be more successful.

Below is the feedback on my music video. I asked Erin Miller, Ben Withers and Jack Cracknell to give me some feedback on my music video product, I asked them because Erin took part in my music video and wanted to see how my filming would come together. Ben does film and therefore has some knowledge on techniques with filming and editing, therefore I asked for his opinion on my work.

Below is my feedback on my digipak product. I decided to create a handmade survey and have random people complete it in my year group, as this is my target audience for my product. To get feedback on my digipak, I created my own questions on Microsoft Word and then sent the questions as a picture to people on Facebook. They then sent me their responses by messages of which I then filled the answers on Microsoft Word.

4th Day of Filming Added to Music Video

This is my music video with the footage I took on the fourth day of filming. As you can see the clips have been arranged into the areas where there was no footage and therefore completing my music video. I have also changed the effects for the scenes where she is been beaten up, to black and white as this contrasts better with the colour scenes. I have also added the same effects onto my new footage similar to the other happier sections of the video. Making it look/link better. I am happy with my final product because it is exactly what I envisioned at the start of the year with some minor changes to the storyline to make the narrative flow better. I also like the added effects that I probably wouldn't of looked at without having feedback being bold enough to give it a try. I think that it has enhanced my product and resembles a real life product conventionally and does this successfully.

Problems encountered whilst filming

One problem I encountered whilst on my fourth day of filming is that Nick's camera was formatted the day before I was due to film. This in effect meant that when I came to use the camera, I was unable to change and alter the settings as Nick hadn't put the settings back onto the camera. This meant that I had to point the camera in certain places to adjust the light, hence why most of my footage was very dark. When it comes to editing my footage to my music video it means I will have to increase the brightness and adjust the contrast.

4th Shooting Plan

For the last day of filming I am going to hopefully finish my music video. I will hopefully film the parts at the beginning of my music video where the friends are at the park talking and the car scenes. Looking at how much space I still have left for filming, I need no more than 20mins worth of footage. Depending on what shots I decide to do and frame.

Weather

Screen shot of weather taken on Monday for Sunday 21st March:

Screen shot of weather the day before planned shoot:

Looking at the weather for tomorrows filming, the weather looks promising. As I will shooting in Pearson Park, I'm hoping that the weather stays dry for us to shoot so that we don't have to reschedule. If this is the case we will have to arrange sometime during the week or the following weekend.

Final Digipak

Final Magazine/Poster Advertisment

After making changes to my product, this is the design I am going to use as my promotional product. This will advertise my artist and my digipak. I am happy with the colour theme I decided to use and the text style that I used. Over all I think that my product is good because, I have looked at existing products already on the market produced my female pop artist, and therefore used this to influence my work. After asking my teachers what they think of my products, I am going to put my poster to the students at my college and see what people of the target audience I have aimed at, will think of it.

Feedback of My Mag/Poster Ad

After receiving feedback on my magazine poster advert, I am going to move the record label so that it is next to the iTunes logo. I thought to do this as my teacher Tim Anderson, said that it would look better being with the other labels. He also said the comments above in the GoAnimate. I am also going to add information about what media forms you can buy the album as I only had information on how you can consume the product on web 2.0

Changes Made to Digipak (2nd Draft)

For my final changes to my digipak, I decided to make the text more central like on the back of Sam Smiths 'In the Lonely Hour' album. I also decided to put the album name on the back of the CD rather than 'Track List' because I thought this would be more conventional as you don't see many CD backs with the title 'Track List'. Another thing that I decided to change was the size of my main image. I thought it would look better if I made it bigger and made it so that it would take up more space. Making her look more dominating.

I'm happy with the changes I have made because I think my product looks more conventional and more pleasing to look at. I think that it looks more like a digipak back cover than the other draft I made.

Here is my back added to my digipak:

And these are the screenshots of me changing my back cover:

Changes Made to Mag/Advert (3rd Drafts)

Above are my tweaks and changes to my magazine/advert poster as I wanted to experiment with the different layouts that I could create. Below is the process that I took to create these products. Out of the three designs I think that I prefer the 1st draft and 3rd draft. This is because I like the central positioning of the text and that it doesn't cover the main image. I have changed the sizing of the logos and featured section so this gives me more room to play with and it also doesn't look too dominating over the picture.

1st Draft

Above shows the screen shots of me producing my first draft above (top left). As I had all the material I needed to construct another version of my product, It was mainly a case of changing the layout and structure of my product. To start with my teacher Becky said that it would be a good idea if I down scaled my logos as they appeared to be too big, and dominate the poster. With that in mind I decided to make these logos smaller and get rid of one of the logos. Next I decided to move the Twitter and Facebook logo to the right and have the iTunes logo to the left to evenly distribute the logos at the bottom of my poster. I then moved the website to the middle center as wanted to see what this would look like with the text in the middle rather than at one side. After I then moved the date, featured section, To the left and I moved the title of the album to underneath the artists name. I deleted the text that was above the title of the album as I thought this wasn't necessarily important and made the poster less cluttered with text. Lastly I moved the main image to the center as I thought that it didn't look centralised when looking back at my product.

For the third draft on this page, I decided to move everything to the center like the design I originally did for my first mock up. I changed the text inside the featured section and wrote something less and more specific to the advertisement rather than the CD.

Changes Made to Music Video (4th Draft)

Here is my music video with the effects and transitions for footage I have already edited. From the feedback from Becky and the advise she gave me I looked back over the footage and changed the timings of some of the clips and made some areas longer where appropriate. I then went back through my video and added effects to all of the clips. The performance sections all had the 'Hard Light' with the amount at around 72.66 as this looked natural and didn't look too harsh. For the sections where she is being beaten up, I decided to use the 'Combat' effect which the name sounded appropriate and made the clip grey and discoloured. This effect was exactly what I was after to make it reflect the pain and sad emotions that my actor world be feeling.

As for the happy times that my actor was going through, I decided to use the 'Vibrancy' and 'Vignette' effect as together, made the clip look colour reflecting her emotions. Together with the bad times that she faces creates a great contrast between them. When looking at my performance sections I decided to add a few lighting effects to see what affect this would create and to add something extra to the clip which I thought it lacked.

Looking at this draft I think that this has made my product look better as it doesn't look as amateur. By editing my performance sections like I have, has made the background of the set look more professional and doesn't give the idea of where the footage has been taken. I also this that the alterations have improved the footage taken at Joe's house because looking back at the original footage, the footage had an orange tinge. By using that specific affect has made it less noticeable.

Now I need to focus on finishing my video and last alterations to my ancillary products.

Above is my the screen shots I took while adding my effects and transitions to my music video. As you can see from the shots, I altered the timings for some of the shots and added the effects to each clip like explained above.

Feedback of My Music Video

My media teacher Rebecca Ives gave me helpful feedback on my products and music video. With the comments said I will make a list of things that I need to achieve within the next 2 weeks. That way I can look back at this post to see what I still need to achieve and hopefully have completed asap. After spending time editing and making my products someone else's point of view picks out the things that I wouldn't of noticed and things that I have picked which enforces the need for me to change it. Other than making a few minor changes to the back cover of my digipak I am fairly happy with how it has turned out. Looking at the research I carried out, it was easy to figure out what I was after for a product.

As for my magazine advert, the comments Becky has made, has made me rethink the layout and go back to my first draft and see what other designs I came up with. They maybe better at displaying the information than the one that I created. Other than that I am fairly happy with the text and colour, I think it is just a case of looking at the layout and scaling of the featured section and logos.

Producing 2nd Mock for Poster/Mag Ad

Process of Producing my Mag/Ad from MollieMayMediaA2

Above is a slide share clip of all of the screen shots I took to produce my magazine advert. After producing my final product, I will then look into places where my product will be advertised and featured.

Firstly I created a new document on photoshop with the paper sizes A4 as this is the standard size that most advertisements are made to fill. I then made the background black so that it would correspond with the digipak. I then opened my front cover, and copied the layer which I used for the front cover of my digipak. This was because I wanted to use the same image on both products to show continuity.  I then moved the image into the center of the poster and made it to fit the majority of the poster, as I wanted this to be the main focal point. When I positioned the image where I wanted it on the poster, I then filled in the edges to make the background of my poster. Using the front cover of my digipak, I copied the text of the artist name and album cover. Next I gathered the rest of the conventional information I would need for my poster advertisement eg website, released date, featured track and logos. I used the text style 'Optimus Pinceps' for the release date and website as this is what I used for the track list on my digipak. I had this writing in white to stand out against the black background. For the information above the album name, I used the default text style as I wanted the text to be formal and not stand out from the rest of the text styles I used. With all the conventional information I needed, I then begin to construct my product.

When it comes to developing my product I am going to consider moving the text to the middle or layout my mag advertisement in the design of my first mock up. I realise now that I missed the star rating so in my next draft I will include this and see what ways I can structure my product for the best result.

Producing 1st Mock Digipak

With reference to the video above of the screen shots I took, here is how I produced my digipak. I made the video using Windows Movie Maker as it is a good way of showing my screenshots without taking up a large amount of space on the blog post. Also the program is free to download and allows me to add music as well as photos.

Inside Right

After looking through my photo shoot images, I choose this image originally because I wanted to make it my front cover image. However, when I looked at my original ideas for my front cover I realised that this image didn't have the lighting and tones to make a black and white image for the front like the Emeli Sande 'Our Versions of Events' album and Sam Smith 'In the Lonely Hour' album cover. So instead I decided to use this image for one of the inside panels. I started to edit this image by adjusting the levels so that the background, with it been black, would make it darker and make the artist stand out more against the background. I then added a solid pink colour layer for the lips, and changed the blending option to overlay. Next I rubbed out everywhere but the lips and changed the opacity so that it made the lips look pinkier and more lush. As the colour looked pale in the original image. Using the same process, I used a green solid colour for my artist's eyes to make the colour stand out. Afterwards I used another colour layer to brighten up my artist's highlights. I choose a golden colour to highlight it with to match the text colour as well as to enhance the colour.

The reason for me editing my artist that way is because in Pop genre, women are made to look flawless as these are the women young adults look up too. Therefore I wanted to make my artist have this pop artist look. After editing my artist I then copied the shape and size of the digipak section for the inside right so that it would fit the digipak. I then filled the background, copied the image of my artist onto it and moved it across onto the digipak.

Front Cover

To produce my front cover, I first selected the image that I wanted to use for the front and has appropriate lighting for me to use covert to black and white which would show different highlights and tones from the studio lights. To start with to make the lighting stand out, I changed the levels to make the tones of light more graduate. I then used the exposure tool to darken the image and then unshaded everywhere but the edges of the frame making it lighter there. I did this so it would draw your attention to the artist and the technique is used in many album covers with a black and white front. After that, I copied the size of the front cover from the digipak template and I filled in the gaps so that my image would make the front background. Next I went onto the site where I fount the text I wanted to use (dafont.com) and referred back to the text post. From there I tried different text styles and in the end, I choose 'Birds of Paradise' for the artists name and 'Mount' for the name of the album from the collection I had previously selected.

One problem I encountered while selecting the text off the website was that when copied to photoshop, the writing was in black with a white background. However, I wanted this in reverse. To do this I had to screen shot the text of the website, crop it so I just had the text and then use the paint bucket tool to change the background colour to a different colour I wouldn't use. I then had to manually paint each letter the colour of my choice. This was quite time consuming however this was the only way I could think to do it. I decided to have my artists name in white with the album name colour to be gold as I wanted this to be my theme throughout my product. After that I then used the magic eraser tool to remove the background of the text image and then used the blending tool to add a black outline onto edges of the text to make it stand out against the background. Finally I flattened the image and added it to my digipak.

Back Cover

Looking through my images, I choose the image for my back cover because it reminded of Sam Smith's newest album. Firstly for this image I cropped it so that there is no background to my image. Next I altered the levels of the image to bring out the highlights from the studio lighting directed onto my artist. I used the exposure tool and selected the settings so that it made the chair dark, as due to the lighting the chair stood out next to my artist. Therefore by doing this and unshaded my artist so that it would darken the chair and not make it stand out as much. By copying the size of the section I need to cover, it gives me an idea of the space I need to work with. Because I have to fit my track list and other conventional information onto my back cover,  I decided to put my image to the bottom left side. I thought this would be a good idea to place here as you read from left to right so therefore this will be the first thing the audience will see. This would also give me the space to write my track list. After that I placed a box in the bottom corner right for the space that would include my featured hit single. I decided to put it there as it would fit comfortably there and not make the cover look too crowded. I left the box there so that I could come back to this as I wanted to sort the arrangement for my track list. Using the text styles post research, I went back and looked at my text style options. Because I had used 'Birds of Paradise' for the artists name and 'Mount' for the name of the album, I decided to keep to a 3 maximum text font style so that the different text styles would be confusing. I chose to have the main title of the track list the same style font and colour of the album cover to show continuity between my products. I then used the the text style 'Optimus Princeps' for the alum track list as I wanted to stand out from the track list text and not be the same as the artist name text style. As I wanted her name to be the unique original style. Using the website dafont.com I sampled each track name and copied it to my back cover document. Then I used the paint tool to colour the individual letters to make the text white on black background. I then erased the background and moved the text in place. I decided I wanted the track list to curve around my artist. I'm not sure I want to keep it this way so I might have an experimentation session and see what other ways I could display my text. To start with I included the track number, however half way through editing, I decided to delete it as looking at other CD products, not many people include the track number.

For the featured section including the track of my music video product, I decided to use the glow technique that I had practiced on my model, to go on the outside box of the featured section. I thought this would work well as it reflects the name of the track as well as the colours makes your eyes drawn to this area and want to see what the information includes. After following the steps that I had learnt, I thought that it looked particularly good after a few attempts with the anchor point tool. I then began to add the text to go inside the box. I used the 'Optimus Princeps' style font for the 'Featuring the new hit single' text, with the 'new' being in bold. I wanted to keep the continuity for the text so I therefore used this font to match the track list font. I also added the copy right information and placed it under the box to the right. The text itself I used from an existing CD but changed the information to make it relevant to my product. As I wasn't sure what to right I decided to use a real product for ideas so that it would make it more realistic and genuine. Looking back at the featured section, I decided to add the name of the track and information about the music video that's exclusive for those who buy the product. I thought this would be realistic to add as many products use this to advertise themselves and opportunities for audiences to receive exclusive information. I had the 'new' and 'double rainbow' in gold and the rest in white to make it stand out and to draw the eyes of the audience to this area. I then copied the layer onto my digipak. As you can see my digipak is coming along nicely.

Looking back at my product I would like to reshuffle the track list and see if displaying it differently will look better. I also would like to change the 'Track List' name to the name of the album because looking at other CD products, you don't tend to see 'Track List', it is usually blank or repeats the name of the album. Another experiment I would like to look at is maybe making my artist bigger to fill in some blank space and to make her look more dominating.

CD Case Holders

I decided to have the cases sit on a black background as I have chosen this for the ground of my other case sides. By choosing a colour like this, it will make the CDs stand out. With it been plain it wont be a distraction from the images inside the case.

Inside Left

For the inside left panel, I decided to perform the same treatment as I did with the inside right, I changed the levels so that the highlights where more defined which made the backgound become a solid black colour. I then proceeded in empathising the little colour that was seen by creating a solid layer of pink to make her lips look less pasty. By creating a solid layer I can make the colour blend in and make any colour stand out more with the selected area I choose, I then did the same process but enhanced the gold that appeared in the artists hair highlights. At first I thought the colour was quite brassy therefore I lowered the opacity to a comfortable level that enhanced the hair and didn't make it too gold and unnatural. Finally I copied the shape of the cover off the digipak and made my artist fit the section. I then moved the layer onto my digipak and fitted it to the inside left area.

Spine

To create the spine I simply selected the area of the spine on the digipak and painted the section black to match the rest of the sides of the digipak. I then copied the text for the album name and artist and arranged them on the side so that when the digipak is put together, it would make up the side panel. Lastly I copied the record label logo to place on the side to advertise the music industry that my artist belongs to.

3rd Day Added to Music Video

Here is the added footage to my music video from the third day of me filming. As you can see from my music video I have finished the majority of my video except I still need to plan another day of filming to fit the beginning section of my music video. Looking at my music video I think that the new footage fits well with the music and the narrative structure flows to make sense. At first when I was developing my ideas for my music video structure and story board, I thought to display what I had in my head would be difficult, however I think that by visually seeing my ideas, it has worked well. From taking on board my feedback and my own criticism  I have changed sections of the music video of my second day of footage, and made the video flow better and more easier. I think that the editing and narrative structure fits better with the song more now than how it did in the second draft.

Producing My Music Video Draft

Above are screen shots of me inserting the footage that I wanted to use in my music video. At this point I was cutting the clips so that the footage would fit in time with my chosen song. With some of my clips due to the lighting, the footage appeared slightly orange tinged. So I decided to change the exposure of the clip and adjust the colour so that it didn't appear as harsh. To do this I added a colour tinge of blue which made the clip look less orange.

As I was having issues with this section of the clip as I wasn't happy with the speed, I decided to cut a chunk of this section shown above so that it only had the friends buying the donut. I thought to do this because this would give me space to speed my clips up and also from my feedback, it made sense to only show this narrative section and not the part where they walk away. Looking back at the video, this was a good idea as it still narratively makes sense however it has given me room to make my previous clips normal speed and make the editing less abrupt.

Here is the process of me putting my clips back to normal speed at the section that I and my teacher thought where too fast. By deleting the clip like said above, it gave me more space to play around with the speed and also add more footage that I haven't used from my second day of filming. Therefore allowing me to have the room to add to my more footage to my video. I then played around with trimming the footage to fit and have the appropriate sections of the footage in my music video. Looking at my product so far this has made this section look more smoother and not as fast as the previous draft.

Male Lead - Nick Richardson

Antagonistic Character - Joseph Wilson

Weather Forecast

Above is the weather forecast for the Monday 9th March. As you can see the weather will be perfect for us to film in because the weather will by dry and slightly windy. This shouldn't be a problem as most of the filming we do on the day will be inside. Never the less, I need to check the weather because I will need one or two shots from outside. To check the weather I used the internet to find a website to display the current weather and the future forecast to see if i would need to reschedule a more suitable day if the weather does turn out to be bad. If so then the shots of outside will have to be arranged on a different day however I will be able to shoot inside so this wouldn't slow the filming down by much.

Experimenting with Glow on Artist Pics

I decided to use this image to add a glow because I thought that due to the artists pose, the loops would look smooth around her. As you can see, I followed the steps like on the Youtube clip which where easy to follow. I found that when I was producing the swirls around my artist, it was easier as i wasn't having to think about where to put lines.

Again I choose this image because of the models pose and that I could visualise where the glow would go around my artist. I think that this image looks better than the other two because the glow goes around her more naturally and I also think that the change between colours is well distributed.

I chose this image to edit on because I wanted to see what the glow would look like on the arm of my artist rather than the glow going around her full body. I don't think this glow works as well the other images I did the glow on because, the swirls look too persistent and I think that the glow looks better around the body rather than just the arm.

Out of these three images, I like the image to the left out of the other two. I think the pose and swirl work well together making the glow look naturally fit around her pose. I also like the colour of the glow better on this image because the distribution of colour is fairly equal and changes colour evenly. I think I might use this image for the promotion of the single rather than the album itself as it suits the song more than it does for the album. I will therefore place this image next to the featured single on the magazine advert.
