First Initial Idea Magazine Ad Mock up

Here is a quick draft of what I want my final product to look like. This design is a starting point and was influenced by the research I had made previous to this post. This design took main influences from the Jessie J magazine poster advertisement for her debut album, 'Who you are'. I like this design because I like the way the information is displayed as the main image dominates the page to promote my artist. I think that I will develop this design multiply by asking my target audience and looking at the possible layouts I could use. Also with colour themes, font possibilities I will be able to come up with a more improved version of this design.

Album Name Generator

When thinking about my final product, I thought about looking at an album name that would suit the style of the song I'm producing my music video too. I decided to look at the album generator site http://www.fakemusicgenerator.com which gave me a fake album cover, names of songs and a name for the fake album. This will give me a few ideas as to what i could include on my digipak as well as a possible name for my product.

I like these two album names because they would suit the style of the song im using for my music video. As the song is quite soulful I should look at a similar type of album name and other types of soulful song titles to make up the song list for my album. 'Most People Never Listen' and 'Know Something' sound like good album titles to use. Out of them both I think I will use 'Know Something' because it sounds similar to female pop albums released now eg Natalie Kills - Trouble, Tegan and Sara - Heartthrob and Charli XCX - True Romance.

Text Style Ideas

Using the website dafont.com I was able to look at 26,891 different styles of font that are displayed on the website, all filtered into different types and occasions. Above are all the styles and designs that I like and will suit my album design. I first looked at Sans serif designs as I thought this style of text would suit the title of my album. I got this idea from looking at Emeli Sande 'Our Version of Events' album cover, as she uses similar text for the name of her album on the front of her album cover. I like this style because it is simple and bold which stands out as it appears a dominating form of text. This style of text is often used in businesses which makes the product look professional, which will make my album cover look like those produced by a real artist.
I then went on to look at Serif styles of text which I think this style looks professional but also formal and can appear to any form of active audience. As my artist is female, the text font I choose are fairly feminine as the style has more flicks and curves than the Sans serif style. Therefore I may use this style of text for my artists name, as this would be more appropriate to use. I got this idea from the Sam Smith album 'In the Lonely Hour', as you can see that this text is softer to look at than the more defined style of text used in the Emeli Sande album.
Lastly the list of Calligraphy and the Old School style of text which I looked at, is the style I wanted to use for my artists name. I decided to look at a script, handwritten style font as I think that this would represent a signature style. I got this idea from looking at the One Direction 'Midnight Memories' album cover. The style of text that they use is a graffiti style look which works well for their album as it is male gender specific. However, this idea of using a drawn, handwritten style came from the style that they have used.

Out of all the font styles that I looked at, the ones circled are the styles that I think I may use for my digipak and magazine advertisement. I plan to use the same text style though out all my products as I what to show continuity through all my products. I plan to only use three different styles of text on my products as anymore then my product will look too confusing as the different styles wont suit the album. When it comes to constructing my products, I will try the different text fonts and experiment with which ones I like the most. I think by having a range of different text styles to try will make it easier to play around and mix and match them.

Artist Name Ideas

To choose my artist name, I decided to look on my iPad at possible common names on the website nameberry.com. This website proved useful as you could filter what names you're after e.g unusual, popular or familiar. For my artist I wanted to choose a name that would be recognizable and unique. When looking at the media at the moment, most female pop stars are short names and therefore easier to remember. Eg Adele, Shakira, Taylor, Rihanna, Pink, Demi.
Looking at the names in the list above, the names that appeal to me are; Willa, Maisie and Clara. The reason for these names because in my opinion they are not common names that you hear. Looking at pop artist names, they are also unheard. To help me with this decision, I am going to send a survey around to get the opinion of students at my college on which name would look better for a female pop artist.
