2nd Filming Day Added to Music Video

Here is my music video with the new footage from the second day of filming. As you can see from the video there is a lot of improvements that need to be made. Firstly I am going  to re edit the footage I have added because in my opinion, the footage is too fast as well as the editing for a song of this pace.

One of the main issues that I have to address with my music video is that the narrative sections that i have put in are in my opinion too fast for the music video. Because the song is quite slow, by making increasing the speed of the song, I think has made the clips look to fast forward to fit with the timing of the music. To resolve this, I am going to slow the clips down and edit the sections again.

Editing Process

This is a screen shot of me editing the footage I filmed on my second day of filming. As you can see, I had a lot of footage to use and therefore when it came to fitting the shots between the performance shots, I ran out of space. I wanted to include most of the shots for the narrative to work and show the two different locations. For it all to work I had to cut most of the shots by half but still show continuity. This worked well but still meant that the narrative over lapped the performance sections.

In the end, I decided to increase the speed of the shots to reduce the time of each section, so that it would all fit into the allocated area. This proved difficult because I had to find the speed balance, otherwise It would look like the actors where running in each shot. I also cut out certain parts of footage to equally make room for the section, but also still flow and not jump. This then gave me the space to fit my footage between the section. I used the blade tool also to cut sections of the footage that where idol or nothing important was going on in the time to make room for footage.

I think this section of footage added to my music video is good because I have included the shots that I wanted to use in this section and more. This was down to taking my storyboard and experimenting with different angles and perspective. This allowed me to have more footage to play with and add shots that I wouldn't of considered. However, while editing I soon noticed that certain shots took longer than I thought so the lyrics of the song don't match the shots on my storyboard as well as I hoped. With this in mind when I come to my next edit or with all of my footage, I may shuffle the performance around or come up with an alternate solution.

Feedback off teacher:

As I found it difficult to explain my issues with my music video, I decided to go to my teacher and see what advice I could get. To sort out the pace of the music video, she said that it would be best to change the speed of the music video back to normal so that the narrative fits the timing of the music video better. She also pointed out to me that narrative could be altered slightly because it doesn't have to completely flow. When it comes to my next draft I am going to take this on board and see if I can make it fit better and maybe make shots longer so that it doesn't look like the editing is as fast.

Photos Taken on Second Day of Filming

These images where taken by Joe Wilson, as he drove us to the location and I thought that it would be a good idea to take shots of me while I filmed the shots that I needed. In the images above you can see me filming the sections at Bridlington. I had some issues filming these shots due to the public location, people walking by during recording and shying away from the camera. Therefore on film not creating a natural environment. Thus having to take multiple shots of the same actions. While at the arcade, I asked the owner if I was able to film at the back of the arcade, which he was happy to allow us to. This allowed me to take a range of shots and angles without worrying about getting kicked out of the arcade,

Shots Taken From Second Day of Filming

Shots Used:

These are the footage clips that I will use to add to my music video. The reason for me choosing these shots for my video is because the framing and angles of each shot are exactly what I want to include in my video. I also think that when these shots will be put together they will create a smooth narrative structure.

Second Day of Filming

Organizing the day

Here is the conversation between my actors to organise when we would next film the narrative story. I originally wanted to shoot the scenes at Pearson Park, Bridlington, Scarborough and Hessel Foreshore. However, on the day due to the journey to get to Bridlington, it took longer than expected so I decided to shoot what I was going to shoot in Scarborough in Bridlington. This still gave me the footage I needed but didn't need to travel the extra miles to a different location. After shooting in Bridlington we then went to Hessel Foreshore, to get the long distance travel out of the way, so that I could save time and just shoot at Pearson Park and Joe's house on a separate day. After filming at Hessel it was then around 3 o'clock, at 4 o'clock one of my actors then had to be at work. Therefore we ran out of time to shoot at Pearson and Joe's house. Because of the footage I have, I wont need to shoot back at Bridlington or Hessel unless feedback on my product suggests I should. This wouldn't be a problem.
Looking at the conversation above, we also discus costume arrangements. By using Facebook Messenger, it allows people to create group conversations. This was helpful because I then didn't have to talk to individual actors and it allowed me to post and get in touch with everyone at the same time. Facebook Messenger also allows you to send images to the group which allowed me to give visual interpretations of how I wanted my actors to dress.

Weather Forecast

By using an app already installed on all iPhones, it allowed me to keep track of the weather forecast in Bridlington on the way to the location. It also allowed me to organise the best day to shoot the footage I needed as we would be outside for the majority of the time that I would be filming. The last thing that I would need is to turn up to the location and not be able to film due to the rain. Weather apps are very useful to use because it allows you to keep up to date while connected to wifi, however 50% of the time they can give you false information about the weather.

Luckily the weather forecast on the day we filmed, was sunny with the odd cloudy coverage. This was perfect to film the areas outside as we wouldn't have the disruption of rain.

Equipment

Canon EOS 600D:

I plan to use Nick's camera to film my footage because I have seen some of the work filmed by this camera and have been impressed with the quality. Because this camera is a DSLR, I have my own DSLR so the buttons and functions I understand well and will be able to work the camera and hopefully produce good quality footage. Nick also has a range of lenses to use, which I could try. On the day however, I only used one lens as I was comfortable with it and I didn't want to switch between the different lenses. To make sure the quality between shots during my music video stays the same, I might film the performance sections again but use Nick's camera instead of colleges equipment.

Storyboard sheets:

I decided to bring my storyboard to the filming shoot because it would give me a visual interpretation of what types of shots I would need to film. I could also look at the framing of each drawn shot and recreate what is included in the frame. By bringing it with me it also allows me to stick within the time frame allocated for each frame on my storyboard as well as give me information on editing movements and composition. While filming I decided to shoot each shot twice and take footage from different angles and frames to make sure I have a good range of cinematography. I also wanted to make sure I had enough footage as I didn't want to have to revisit the location because I didn't have enough shots or angles that I needed. Using my storyboard also helped in this sense as I was able to look at my storyboard to see what I needed and what extra shots I could take.

In regards to equipment there wasn't much else I needed to bring as I was heavily relying on the locations for props for the situation. I also didn't use a tripod as the shots I where taking where hand held and best suited the framing. However, I maybe should of brought a tracking system as some of my tracking shots where unsteady. In saying that, my shots are still usable.

Pop Artist Name Survey Results

I decided to produce a survey of the names that I have considered for my artist as I wanted a second opinion on which name would best suit the style of music. I also wanted to get different opinions of what people thought on the names suggested. Looking at the results, 10 people took part in the survey. 2/5 of those who took part said that they preferred the name Willa with most saying that they liked this name due to it been unique. Half of those who took the survey said that they liked the name Maisie, as most of those who commented said that this name sounds better for they style of genre. Clara proved to be the least favourite with only 10% of those who took part voted for this name. Even so, the comment as to why isn't a clear reason to why they liked the name.

Looking at the results, I can conclude that I will choose Maisie as this name proved to be the post popular from my survey results. I also think this name will be easier to remember by the audiences that consume this style of genre as like those who commented in the survey say that the name sounds nicer and will therefore be likely to be remembered.
