Here is my music video with the new footage from the second day of filming. As you can see from the video there is a lot of improvements that need to be made. Firstly I am going to re edit the footage I have added because in my opinion, the footage is too fast as well as the editing for a song of this pace.
One of the main issues that I have to address with my music video is that the narrative sections that i have put in are in my opinion too fast for the music video. Because the song is quite slow, by making increasing the speed of the song, I think has made the clips look to fast forward to fit with the timing of the music. To resolve this, I am going to slow the clips down and edit the sections again.
Editing Process
This is a screen shot of me editing the footage I filmed on my second day of filming. As you can see, I had a lot of footage to use and therefore when it came to fitting the shots between the performance shots, I ran out of space. I wanted to include most of the shots for the narrative to work and show the two different locations. For it all to work I had to cut most of the shots by half but still show continuity. This worked well but still meant that the narrative over lapped the performance sections.
In the end, I decided to increase the speed of the shots to reduce the time of each section, so that it would all fit into the allocated area. This proved difficult because I had to find the speed balance, otherwise It would look like the actors where running in each shot. I also cut out certain parts of footage to equally make room for the section, but also still flow and not jump. This then gave me the space to fit my footage between the section. I used the blade tool also to cut sections of the footage that where idol or nothing important was going on in the time to make room for footage.
I think this section of footage added to my music video is good because I have included the shots that I wanted to use in this section and more. This was down to taking my storyboard and experimenting with different angles and perspective. This allowed me to have more footage to play with and add shots that I wouldn't of considered. However, while editing I soon noticed that certain shots took longer than I thought so the lyrics of the song don't match the shots on my storyboard as well as I hoped. With this in mind when I come to my next edit or with all of my footage, I may shuffle the performance around or come up with an alternate solution.
Feedback off teacher:
As I found it difficult to explain my issues with my music video, I decided to go to my teacher and see what advice I could get. To sort out the pace of the music video, she said that it would be best to change the speed of the music video back to normal so that the narrative fits the timing of the music video better. She also pointed out to me that narrative could be altered slightly because it doesn't have to completely flow. When it comes to my next draft I am going to take this on board and see if I can make it fit better and maybe make shots longer so that it doesn't look like the editing is as fast.
