Text Style Ideas

Using the website dafont.com I was able to look at 26,891 different styles of font that are displayed on the website, all filtered into different types and occasions. Above are all the styles and designs that I like and will suit my album design. I first looked at Sans serif designs as I thought this style of text would suit the title of my album. I got this idea from looking at Emeli Sande 'Our Version of Events' album cover, as she uses similar text for the name of her album on the front of her album cover. I like this style because it is simple and bold which stands out as it appears a dominating form of text. This style of text is often used in businesses which makes the product look professional, which will make my album cover look like those produced by a real artist.
I then went on to look at Serif styles of text which I think this style looks professional but also formal and can appear to any form of active audience. As my artist is female, the text font I choose are fairly feminine as the style has more flicks and curves than the Sans serif style. Therefore I may use this style of text for my artists name, as this would be more appropriate to use. I got this idea from the Sam Smith album 'In the Lonely Hour', as you can see that this text is softer to look at than the more defined style of text used in the Emeli Sande album.
Lastly the list of Calligraphy and the Old School style of text which I looked at, is the style I wanted to use for my artists name. I decided to look at a script, handwritten style font as I think that this would represent a signature style. I got this idea from looking at the One Direction 'Midnight Memories' album cover. The style of text that they use is a graffiti style look which works well for their album as it is male gender specific. However, this idea of using a drawn, handwritten style came from the style that they have used.

Out of all the font styles that I looked at, the ones circled are the styles that I think I may use for my digipak and magazine advertisement. I plan to use the same text style though out all my products as I what to show continuity through all my products. I plan to only use three different styles of text on my products as anymore then my product will look too confusing as the different styles wont suit the album. When it comes to constructing my products, I will try the different text fonts and experiment with which ones I like the most. I think by having a range of different text styles to try will make it easier to play around and mix and match them.
